Will There Ever Be Beecham House Season 2?

The Periodic-drama series Beecham House had a dramatic and pretty violent cliff-hanger ending in its first season and that made the fans got pumped up for the second season. Unfortunately, we are not holding that much great news for the fans.

The six-episode of Beecham House initially circulated in the U.K. in the late spring of 2019. It came to America as a PBS Passport elite in March of 2020, before broadcasting broadly on Masterpiece. But, shockingly, in mediating a very long time between its U.K. also, U.S. broadcasts, British network ITV chose to cancel the show. They officially confirmed that they have no plans to renew the drama for the second drama. This crushed all the hopes and expectations fans were having in regards to the show returning.

Why Beecham House Season 2 Got Cancelled?

Why Beecham House Season 2 Got Cancelled?

This is the exact question fans are wondering and must be wanted to ask the makers of the show right when they announced the cancellation of the show. The main purpose is that the series lacked sufficient market and target viewership as compared to other series which were airing at the same time.

Gurinder Chadha thinks that the United Kingdom audiences had been dropping their interest in the historic drama which suggests as they’re greater interested in Reality shows as indicated through one of her interviews. She also believes that the series successfully impresses the Asian fanatics as she was getting lots of appreciation from the Asian viewers. Even though she doesn’t remember any formally confirmed numbers, she was still satisfied and happy to know that Asians had been into the shows.

Beecham House Season 2 Story

What is the plot of Beecham House?

Beecham House is set in the nineteenth century and spins around the existence of John Beecham. He possesses a royal house which he has bought on account of his family and the beginning of new business as a merchant. Although he has another home where his relatives and family members are living yet there are a lot of evil powers planning to cut them down.

John is undoubtedly a decent man and working to make a living however people consistently see him with doubt. The chronicled and historical drama works very well to raise an idea where it shows that at whatever point two unique societies crash into one other it brings about misconception and doubt. It also features love, emotion, and danger in a very interesting and unique way.

We hope that the Beecham House drama series will make its renewal for season 2 at the earliest and as soon as possible but this will only happen when it gets platform support. Till then, we can appreciate the primary season of the series.

Lavish costume drama Beecham House debuted on ITV in 2019 and was described as Downton Abbey in India. Following the mysterious English gentleman John Beecham (played by Tom Bateman), the show explored his life after he left the East India Company to become an independent merchant. Sadly, the show was cancelled by ITV - but is there hope the show could be saved?

However, Beecham House creator Gurinder Chadha spoke last year about the possibility of the series being revived.

In an exclusive interview with, Chadha said about the cancellation: “I think it’s one of those shows that had a massive following on catch up and some of our figures are incredibly high.

“Also, it had a large Asian audience which is hard to measure because there’s no way of measuring the Asian audience.

“Disproportionately, I know a lot more Asians will have watched that show because of how they were all writing to me on social media and by mail. But there’s no way of measuring that.”

She went on to say: “I think on the Sunday night it went out, it went out at the same time as Love Island.

“So it was unfortunate. In a way, that’s the reality. TV is these days to be much more about reality shows and sporting events and drama has had to you have to look at catch up audiences in figures. I think we kinda of bore the brunt of that.”

She added: “Also, I think for ITV, there’s this feeling that people in Britain are a bit tired of period dramas. Period dramas haven’t been faring as high as they used to.”

However, Beecham House will be airing in the US on PBS Masterpiece this year and the star was confident Beecham House would fare much better in the US, saying: “I think it’s going to do very, very well in the States.”

On the possibility of the series coming back, she said: “Let’s what happens in March in the US.”

Reflecting on the cancellation, Chadha was pragmatic: “I’m a filmmaker. I’m used to doing one thing and moving onto something else, so it’s not always a big thing for me.

“The idea of going for 20 seasons with the same thing. I’m used to doing it and moving on and it’s exciting for me because it means you can keep doing new things, which creatively is interesting.”

Chadha is now busy working on a raft of other projects including one with ITV and even has another idea based around the same period as Beecham House in India.

2 season beecham cast house

Talk about a shocking ending. The first season of Beecham House, which aired in summer 2020 on PBS, came to a dramatic finish when John Beecham (Tom Bateman) returned home to discover his loyal guard Ram Lal (Amer Chadha-Patel) mortally wounded and his child kidnapped.

Fans of the U.K. period drama (it originally aired on ITV in 2019) were left wondering how the show would resolve the cliffhanger. But they soon learned they might not be getting any answers.

What is Beecham House about?

Group photo of Beecham House cast

Set in India in 1795, Beecham House focuses on John Beecham, a former British soldier turned prosperous trader. He’s recently moved to Delhi, where he lives with a retinue of household staff. There’s also baby, who is revealed to be Beecham’s son.

Eventually, Beecham’s mother Henrietta (Lesley Nicol) arrives in India. She’s accompanied by Margaret Osborne, an eligible young woman named Violet Woodhouse (Bessie Carter). But John’s previous marriage to the daughter of a Maharajah complicates Henrietta’s marriage schemes, as does his relationship with Margaret Osborne (Dakota Blue Richards), the English governess who lives next door. He also gets caught up in some complicated plots involving the Emperor, a treacherous former friend, and French mercenaries.

‘Beecham House’ was canceled after one season

It seemed the Beecham House season finale was going to wrap up all its plot threads in a nice bow. John was released from prison, Henrietta kicked her opium habit (though she probably hasn’t been cured of her racism), the deceitful Samuel Parker (Marc Warren) fled after his plots were thwarted, and John proposed to Margaret (in front of the Taj Mahal, no less).

But a last-minute twist turned that seemingly happy ending upside down. Samuel is still lurking about, unbeknownst to John. When he and Margaret return home, they find the house in chaos, several people dead or wounded, and baby August missing.

That’s a pretty stunning cliffhanger. To make matters worse, it turns out it’s the last-ever episode of Beecham House. ITV canceled the show after one season.

The show’s creator has said she hopes to keep the show going

While ITV decided to pull the plug on Beecham House, the show’s creator, Gurinder Chadha, seemed to be holding out hope for a second season.

“Gurinder Chadha is actively having conversations with international broadcasters with a view to the drama returning beyond series one,” an ITV spokeswoman told Deadline in October 2019.

In an interview with, Chadha said she had received strong positive feedback for the show. But she pointed out that it had to compete against the popular reality series Love Islandwhen it aired in the U.K. She also said ITV was not seeing as much success as it had been with period dramas.

“Also, I think for ITV, there’s this feeling that people in Britain are a bit tired of period dramas,” Chadha said. “Period dramas haven’t been faring as high as they used to.”

Unfortunately, there haven’t been any more updates about a possible Beecham House Season 2 since it aired on PBS. According to the Masterpiece website, there are no plans to move forward with another season. It sounds like viewers will simply have to come to terms with not knowing what happened to baby August.

All six episodes of Beecham House are streaming on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Channel on Amazon Prime Video.
