Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

Annual fee: $95

Sign-up bonus: Earn 60, bonus miles after you spend $3, on purchases within the first three months of account opening.

Rewards: 2 miles per dollar spent on all purchases.

Benefits: The Capital One Venture Rewards Card first earned its place by offering a consistent 2x on all purchases and a simple fixed-value redemption structure. Its 15+ transfer partners and additional bonus categories put it in a league of its own. Miles transfer at three ratios: ,  and ratio, effectively giving the card an earning rate of up to 2 partner miles or points per dollar spent.

Flexibility is one of the most valuable elements of a good points strategy, and the Venture card delivers loads of it by allowing you to decide on a case-by-case basis whether to use it as a fixed-value or transferable-points card. The card offers a Global Entry/TSA PreCheck application fee credit (up to $) every four years.

Quicksilver from Capital One

Annual fee: $0

Sign-up bonus: Earn a one-time $ cash bonus after you spend $ on purchases in the first three months of account opening

Rewards: Earn a fixed and unlimited % cash back on all purchases.

Benefits: The Quicksilver from Capital One is about as simplified as you can get, so for people who don’t want to spend time learning award charts and maxing out transfer bonuses, it can be a decent option. Its rewards are not the best rate on the market, but are passable, especially for a no-annual-fee card. While the sign-up bonus isn’t massive, the spending requirement is low. That said, if you’re in the market for a no-annual-fee cash back card like this, you’d likely be better off picking the Citi® Double Cash Card instead. There’s also the Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit Card, but it comes with a $39 annual fee.

Annual fee: $95

Sign-up bonus: Earn a one-time $ cash bonus after you spend $3, on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

Rewards: The card earns 4% back on dining, entertainment and popular streaming services, 3% back at grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart and Target) and 1% on everything else.

Benefits: The Savor Rewards from Capital One is a pure cash-back card that aims to compete on its earning rates, not on perks and benefits. There are credit cards out there with more valuable individual bonus categories, but if you’re looking for a no-frills, no-nonsense card with multiple solid bonus categories all in one package, the Savor is a great choice to consider. Just make sure you’re getting more than $95 worth of cash back from it year after year — otherwise, you might want to consider the no annual fee Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card instead. With its solid earning rates for dining and entertainment spending, the Capital One Savor Rewards card earns a spot as one of our picks for the best cash back credit cards.

How we chose the best Capital One credit card

While these aren’t the only Capital One credit cards on the market, these are the ones we’ve identified as the most beneficial for our readers. We looked at the rewards rates offered on each card, any additional perks, ease of the redemption process and the sign-up bonuses that came with each to narrow the larger list to this group of seven cards.

Of course, Capital One’s other cards each have their own benefits. For example, most of the cards on this list also have a no-annual-fee version. Those cards tend to be better for beginners or those who don’t spend enough annually to justify an annual fee.

As always, head to our Best Cards and Best Rewards Cards pages to see the best credit cards and best rewards credit cards currently available across all banks and issuers.

What are the main benefits of Capital One credit cards?

Capital One made its Venture and Sparks Miles cards more valuable, offering the ability for cardholders to transfer miles to travel partners at various ratios including , and a ratio.

The flat miles and cash back earned on Capital One Venture, VentureOne, Spark Miles and Quicksilver cards makes things simple for cardholders, since you don’t have to worry about remembering which spending categories offer higher rewards. If you spend regularly on dining and entertainment, the 4% cash back on the Savor or SavorOne card is a good deal. And, if you don’t want to pay an annual fee and prefer a fixed earning rate, the Quicksilver is a reasonable choice.

Plus, none of these cards charge foreign transaction fees.

How many Capital One cards can you have?

There is a limit of two Capital One credit cards per person. However, the Capital One Platinum Secured Credit Card and Capital One’s co-branded cards are not included in the limit.

What are Capital One miles rewards?

Capital One miles rewards are earned on every purchase made with either the Venture, VentureOne or Spark Miles credit cards. You can redeem your miles at a fixed value or by transferring rewards to airline and hotel partners. This means your rewards are flexible — they can cover expenses for standard airline and hotel charges but also for non-traditional travel purchases such as helicopter rides or cruises (neither of which are typically easily covered by points/miles).

TPG currently values Capital One miles rewards at cents per mile. While we don’t value them quite as high as Amex or Chase points (both of which come in at 2 cents apiece), you’re still getting a solid value from your miles.

How to redeem Capital One rewards

Redemptions on all the cards are pretty simple. You can redeem your Savor or Quicksilver cash back as a check, set up automatic redemptions at a set time or at specific cash thresholds or redeem it for statement credits or gift cards.

With the Venture or Spark Miles, you can receive a statement credit for the cost of travel booked with either card. You can also book a flight, car rental or hotel through the Capital One Travel Portal (or call if you’d rather book by phone) and use your miles to pay for them. Additionally, you can transfer your miles to airline or hotel partners in increments of 1, Capital One miles and then use the partner program to book a hotel stay or flight.

Here is a quick rundown of the 19 airline and hotel loyalty programs you can transfer miles to with Capital One:

  • Aeromexico Club Premier
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue
  • ALL – Accor Live Limitless
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • British Airways Avios
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
  • Choice Privileges (later in )
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Etihad Guest
  • EVA Infinity MileageLands
  • Finnair Plus
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Singapore KrisFlyer
  • TAP Air Portugal Miles&Go
  • Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles
  • Wyndham Rewards.

It’s worth noting that the time for your miles to transfer varies depending on each of the partners.

Bottom line

While premium credit cards are all the rage these days, $ to $+ annual fees aren’t right for everyone. Capital One has taken a different approach. None of these cards offer a lengthy, exhausting list of perks that you may or may not remember to use. None of them cost more than $ a year to carry and some are annual-fee-free for the first year.

Capital One has focused on providing a good value proposition in terms of earning and redeeming, instead of complicating things with flashy and expensive perks. Whether you’re an individual or a business, and whether you are looking for miles or cash back, Capital One has a card that can help you achieve your travel goals.

Plus, you can choose from rewards cards earning points, miles, or cash back in various categories — whether you dine out often, you want rewards on your business spending, or you’re saving for a future trip.
Capital One doesn’t fall short in customer service, either. The issuer ranks third in customer satisfaction among national U.S credit card issuers, according to the J.D. Smart credit card use requires a foundation of healthy credit habits like paying your full balance on time each month. It’s important to keep in mind that any high-interest debt balance can quickly wipe out any rewards you earn, so eliminate existing debt before applying for a new credit card.

Earn 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, where you&#;ll get our best prices on thousands of trip options. Earn unlimited 2X miles on every purchase, every day.

  • Intro bonus: 60, miles
  • Annual fee: $95
  • Regular APR: % &#; % (Variable)
  • Recommended credit score: (Good to Excellent)

Overview

With the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card*, you’ll earn two miles per dollar on every purchase. You can earn 60, miles if you spend $3, on purchases in the first three months. The card has a $95 annual fee.

In addition to its standard rewards, the Venture card offers a fee credit of up to $ for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, travel insurance and assistance services, access to Capital One Experiences, and no foreign transaction fees. There’s no blackout dates, expirations (for the life of the account), or limits as to how you can use your miles.

Why we chose this card

The Venture card earns a flat 2 miles per dollar on every purchase you make. That means the things you spend on everyday, like groceries, online shopping, and even bill payments, all contribute to savings on your next trip. Capital One miles are also a flexible rewards currency, so you can redeem them in multiple ways, but you’ll get the best value for your miles when you use them to book travel directly. You can earn 5x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

When you’re ready to book your next trip, you’ll have access to Capital One’s Purchase Eraser, one of our favorite perks of the Venture card. With this tool, you can redeem miles for statement credits toward any eligible travel purchases made in the past 90 days. You can also transfer miles to one of Capital One’s 10+ travel partners.

And even while people aren’t traveling as much these days, the Venture card still offers some short-term value. Through April , you can redeem your miles with select restaurants or delivery services, for streaming services, or wireless phone services through the Cover Your Purchases program.

  • Recommended credit score: (Good to Excellent)

Overview

The Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Card* is a great option for your nights on the town, ordering in, and even purchases you make on the road. You’ll get 4% cash back on dining, entertainment, and popular streaming services, 3% cash back at grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®), and 1% cash back on all other purchases.

You can earn a $ welcome bonus if you spend $3, in purchases in the first three months from account opening. Through January , you’ll also earn 8% cash back on any purchases for future events you make with VividSeats. The card has a $95 annual fee and you can redeem your cash back for any amount at any time.

Why we chose this card

If you eat out a lot or frequently spend on entertainment, then this card can offer some serious savings. Capital One’s “dining” category is broad: it includes everything from fine dining to fast food and even bars. The Savor card also well-suited for travelers, as many of the qualifying “entertainment” categories — including concert and theater tickets, aquariums and zoos, amusement parks, and more — can help you save on activities and tourist attractions while traveling (plus, the card has no foreign transaction fees).

The no annual fee Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card* is another great option; it earns a reduced 3% back on dining, entertainment, and popular streaming services, and offers a smaller intro bonus. But if dining and entertainment make up the largest portion of your monthly budget, the boosted rewards may outweigh the extra $95 annual cost. Use your past spending history to help determine which makes most sense for you.

Who's this for? Prospective cardholders with bad credit may find it difficult to open a traditional, unsecured credit card. However, there's often the opportunity to qualify for a secured card, such as the Secured Mastercard® from Capital One, which can be used to make purchases just like an unsecured card.

The main difference is that you'll be required to make a $49, $99 or $ security deposit, based on your creditworthiness, to receive a $ credit limit. This card stands out for offering the chance to qualify for a lower deposit and still receive the same $ credit limit.

And if you don't qualify for the $49 or $99 deposits, you can receive access to a higher credit limit in as little as six months with no additional deposit needed. Capital One automatically considers you for a credit limit increase based on your payment history and creditworthiness.

Our methodology

To determine which credit cards offer the best value, Select analyzed Capital One credit cards available in the U.S. We compared each card on a range of features, including rewards, welcome bonus, introductory and standard APR, balance transfer fee and foreign transaction fees, as well as factors such as required credit and customer reviews when available. We also considered additional perks, the application process and how easy it is for the consumer to redeem points.

Select teamed up with location intelligence firm Esri. The company's data development team provided the most up-to-date and comprehensive consumer spending data based on the Consumer Expenditure Surveys from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. You can read more about their methodology here.

Esri's data team created a sample annual budget of approximately $22, in retail spending. The budget includes six main categories: groceries ($5,), gas ($2,), dining out ($3,), travel ($2,), utilities ($4,) and general purchases ($3,). General purchases include items such as housekeeping supplies, clothing, personal care products, prescription drugs and vitamins, and other vehicle expenses.

Select used this budget to estimate how much the average consumer would save over the course of a year, two years and five years, assuming they would attempt to maximize their rewards potential by earning all welcome bonuses offered and using the card for all applicable purchases. All rewards total estimations are net the annual fee.

While the five-year estimates we've included are derived from a budget similar to the average American's spending, you may earn a higher or lower return depending on your shopping habits.
