Welcome to our 700R4 transmission sale. The 700R4 is one of the most versatile transmissions ever built. Hydra-Matic designed this 4 speed automatic for use in everything form Corvettes, Limos and Cadillacs to Suv's and Pickups. Also known as the MD8 or TH700R4 this unit was used in the 80s 90s and in the 2000s its still is used as an upgrade for Camaros, Corvettes and other sports cars that were originally equipped with one of the 700R4s predecessors.

Throughout the years the 700R4 had its fair share of problems. The original 700R4s small 27 spline input is not adequate to handle large amounts of torque. Without an aftermarket cooler this transmission is prone to overheating. Loose tolerances around seals and gaskets have caused the unit to leak. Sticky governors and warped valve bodies have been the leading cause of 700R4 failures. Knowing this our XP1 series is much more than just a rebuilt 700R4. Our transmission has been completely remanufactured from the ground up using upgraded parts to address the inherent flaws found in the 700R4. Every unit comes complete with upgraded valve bodies, clutches, seals, bearings, a lock up torque converter and much much more.

Q. How is the transmission shipped?

A. Transmissions are shipped via truck freight (18-Wheeler) through FedEx Freight or R&L Carriers. Depending on your location another carrier may be chosen to better service your area.


Q. How is the transmission packaged?

A. Your order will arrive securely strapped inside a sealed high strength polyethylene (plastic) container.


Q. How do residential deliveries work?

A. For residential deliveries, the carrier must transfer your transmission onto a smaller truck for delivery. The carrier will then call you directly to schedule an appointment for delivery. Because of the extra steps involved residential deliveries are $75 extra.


Q. What else will I need for install?

A. Depending on your transmission type some external components may need to be transferred over from your original transmission. For example, the neutral safety switch, speed sensor, tailhousing etc.


Q. Does the transmission come with fluid? What ATF fluid will I need?

A. Your transmission will arrive with approximately 1-3 quarts of full synthetic ATF in it from testing. The torque converter is already primed with fluid and does not need to be removed. You will have to top the transmission off with fluid before operating. We recommend using our full synthetic ATF or any popular brand full synthetic ATF.

Updates to the Transmission:

  • Updated Sun Shell
    A chronic problem with both OE and thicker aftermarket shells is failure when splines continue to strip or the shells break under normal conditions. Use of a updated hardened spline sun shell helps prevent.
  • Updated Accumulator Pistons
    It is common for the plastic accumulator piston to wear or crack and older aluminum piston bores to wear from repeated reciprocation. This causes a loss of fluid, resulting in delayed engagement, slips, burnt clutches and/or bands. The Updated aluminum accumulator pistons eliminates the cracking problem and restores hydraulic integrity at the pin bore.
  • Updated 3/4 Clutch Pack
    Updated alto 9 clutch 3/4 stack up helps correct one of the most common weak spots of the this transmission, the 3/4 clutch pack. This updated 3/4 stack up allows the load to be to better distributed on the increased clutch apply area of the 9 clutches instead of the factory 6 clutches. We also use a late model 3/4 clutch one piece apply plate to help prevent warping of the the clutch pack;
  • Updated Reverse Input Capsule
    The updated reverse input capsule helps eliminates premature failure in the reverse input clutch by controlling bleed off. Reverse clutch premature failure

This transmission comes with a 1 Year 36,000 Mile Warranty with the purchase of a new torque converter. We offer an extended Warranty 2 Year 50,000 Mile Warranty, or a 3 Year 100,000 Mile Warranty for an additional charge.

Core Information:
Buyer is required to swap a good core for this transmission otherwise there will be a core charge in addition to the above price. Core must NOT have obvious damage, otherwise there will be additional charges.
