The employees of the Post Office are paid basic pay according to their post and part from that they are paid Dearness Allowance, Non-Practicing Allowance, Transport Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Special allowance, and a Distributed Area Allowance. So the total amount that the employee of the Post Office would receive would be a sum total of all the allowance apart from the basic.

Like other government employees, the Postal employees have a Grade Pay. It is a fixed payment that is given to the employees on the basis of the grade of their job. In Postal service also there are Pay Bands according to which the Grade Pay will be decided and given to the employee. For example, an employee who belongs to a Pay Band 4 will receive a Grade Pay which will range between Rs to Rs And an employee who belongs to Pay Band 3 is eligible for a Grade Pay ranging from to

All the Postal employees receive basic pay which differs from the employee’s designation. The pay scale and the allowances also vary from which group of employees in the Post you belong to. There is Gazetted Group A and B, then there is Non-Gazetted Staff B and C. According to the group, the pay will also change. The monthly salary of the employee depends on his or her position. The highest basic salary is of the Secretary who belongs to the Gazetted Group A, salary being Rs

The perks that the Postal employees receive include housing rent allowance, travel allowance, vacation travel allowance, paid leaves, free medical facilities, insurance and low rates of loan, fixed work hours, further study facilities, etc.

As mentioned earlier the employees receive different kinds of allowances along with their basic pay. They also have overtime pay and workload pay allowance. There is travel and cycle maintenance allowance given to the employees of the Post.

The employees of the post are allowed to take their salary in advance if they want to. In order to take an advance, the employee needs to fill a Postal Advance form which is available in all the Post Offices and also available online. The officer will have to sign saying that he or she will continue service until the money is recovered.
