Annie Jones, a 12-year-old Australian singer, had big shoes to fill during Tuesday’s fourth episode of “America’s Got Talent” as she was the act that opened the entire show. Judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel watched as the pint-sized girl in a yellow dress walked out on stage; the fourth judge, Heidi Klum, was sick. “Bravo Annie, that was so beautiful!” Sofia proclaimed after the performance wrapped. “That song was amazing. I loved it. I thought you were so confident and I think this is what you’re meant to do in your life.”

Ever the comedian, Howie joked, “That’s ‘Dance Monkey,’ right? Is that what it’s called? You’re a beautiful little dance monkey! You are amazing. It’s just so stunning watching you, listening to you. You’re a great performer. You sound great. You’re a star. And the world now knows you.”

Simon was up next, and he readily admitted, “I can tell how much you love that song and I like your little twist on it. This is what, a 14-15 hour journey from where you came from? That’s a big deal.” He later added, “While you were up there, your confidence was actually quite amazing. That was a great audition. Well done.”

In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “The first to perform was Annie Jones, a 12 year old Australian singer. Her rendition of ‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones and I was a legit bop and a half and she even moved around the floor with her own slick dance moves. Following the performance Simon took note of the cheering audience and said her confidence was “quite amazing,” joining the other two judges for a full set of yes votes.”

1. Annie appeared on ‘Australia’s Got Talent.’

This isn’t Annie’s first time on a Got Talent show. In 2019, Annie auditioned for the show in her home country of Australia. She was voted through to the next round by the judges following a standing ovation, but unfortunately Annie was eliminated during the Judge Cuts. Here’s hoping she’ll have better luck on America’s Got Talent this year.

2. She was in the ‘School of Rock’ musical.

Annie isn’t just an amazing singer — she also has experience as an actor. In 2018, Annie was cast in the Australian production of stage musical School of Rock, based on the Jack Black movie of the same name. Prior to this role, Annie played Gretl Von Trapp in a production of The Sound of Music.

3. Annie has performed some amazing covers.

Annie has a YouTube channel where she posts her covers of popular songs. Check out her powerhouse performance of Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain” in the video above. Other notable covers she’s posted include “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, and “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown.

4. She was on a TV show called ‘The InBESTigators.’

Annie has also broken into television. Last year, she made a guest appearance on an Australian children’s show called The InBESTigators, about a group of kids who start their own detective agency. Annie appeared in an episode titled “The Case of the Disoriented Drone.” She said on Instagram that she “loved every second on set filming.”

5. She held a note for 15 seconds on television.

Earlier this year, Annie appeared on the Australian show The Project, and was challenged to impress host Tommy Little with a 15-second trick. Annie’s trick was holding a musical note for that amount of time. Tommy was impressed, but Annie unfortunately didn’t win the $500 prize. However, that musical talent will certainly come in handy on AGT this season.
