The Sims Forums

If this is in the wrong section, please forgive me.
I made a rookie error a short time ago. I wasn't happy with the house I put my Sims in yesterday, and spent all morning into the afternoon carefully creating the one I wanted them to be in. I saved this new lot into my library and got out of what I've called my Template save and went to the rotation save where this family is. However, in my zeal to exchange houses, I entered their current lot and from there into build mode where I downloaded the new lot. This has left my YA and new father stuck on the top of the house. In the game, the roof doesn't show, so he's just standing on the roof with nowhere to get off. I tried to resetsim, but that didn't help. What is the best way to rescue my Sim without undoing all of the work I've put into this family? I realize I could likely save them into the library again, keeping all of their progress, since he and his wife were child Sims together. But, if I did that then they would no longer belong to their extended families.

What would happen if I tried recover save? Would that take me to the point just prior to me downloading the new lot over the old? Or am I hosed? Or should I build a set of stairs leading to the top of the house? How do I get my Sim onto terra firma again?

Please, and thank you, in advance. I have to run out for a bit, but I'll check back soon.

The Sims 4: Every Step To Reset Your Sim

While The Sims 4 is generally a stable game, it does still have its moments. Sometimes you'll notice that your sim may freeze, get stuck in a loop or become trapped somewhere in your house. In these circumstances, unless you're trying to kill them, you can solve the issue by resetting your sim.

RELATED: The Sims 4: 10 Fastest Ways To Age A Sim

There are several different ways to reset your sims in The Sims 4. Here we take a look at the options available. For players on console, not every cheat will work but since the number of cheats you have access to is constantly changing, we've included the console-specific buttons where possible so you can try out different reset methods.

10 Back Everything Up

If possible save your game before using cheats. This will ensure that if you accidentally change something you didn't intend to, or make a misclick, you can go back to a previous point.

While the reset may not have happened, saving the game then restarting it and loading back in could also help solve any problems.

9 Open The Cheat Console

On the PC or Mac you need to press ctrl, shift, and c simultaneously to activate the cheat console. If you've done it correctly you'll see a blank text box appear in the top left-hand side of your screen.

On the PS4 or Xbox One you'll need to hold down all four triggers at the same time. This should give you the same box you'd see on the PC or Mac.

8 Activate Cheats

The first thing you need to do is activate the cheats. Be aware that activating cheats on a console will disable the Achievements and Trophies.

This command is the same on all platforms and requires you to type "testingcheats on" including the space, into the box, and then hit enter. If this doesn't work try "testingcheats true".

RELATED: The Sims 4: 10 Skills You'll Want Your Sim To Have

If you've been successful you should see the message testing cheats enabled appear below the text box.

7 Try Methods One By One

The first few ways to rest your sim require using cheats. On console especially this can be a little hit and miss so we recommend trying them one at once to see which works best for you.

Generally, we use the cheat menu, teleport option, and cheat code in that order. If none of these work we've included a couple of more extreme methods that don't require cheats. These are only recommended if you are desperate but they will solve stubborn issues.

6 Use A Cheat Code

With testing cheats enabled you can also use a cheat code to reset your sims. Simply type "resetsim FirstName LastName" using the name of your sim. Make sure you spell it correctly and use capital letters where needed.

You can use this to reset any sim in your household, not just the one you are controlling. They will just jump to a random area on your lot.

Once testing cheats are enabled PC and Mac users can hold the shift button and then click on the sim that needs resetting. This will give you a menu from which you can select Reset Object (Debug). Your sim will now jump a little and unfreeze, resetting their wishes and moodlets but keeping their needs the same.

RELATED: The Sims 4: 9 Base Game Challenges That Don't Require DLC

Not all cheats work on the console version but you can test any shift-click cheats by hitting A and B simultaneously on Xbox One or X and O simultaneously on PlayStation 4 to access the equivalent menu.

4 Teleport Your Sim

With cheats activated the shift-click menu will also allow you to teleport your sim. To do this make sure the sim you want to reset is currently being controlled. Next, find the space you want to teleport them to. Finally shift-click (or equivalent) the ground in that location and select "teleport here" from the menu.

Your sim should now teleport to that space as if they had the ability from the wellness trait. It should stop them from being trapped without adjusting anything else.

3 Go Into Create A Sim

You can also go into create a sim using the shift-click menu. While this won't always work, it does put your sim into a new state and place so can help with weird glitches.

RELATED: 10 Things Missing From The Sims 4 (That Are In Other Games In The Franchise)

You can also access create a sim through a vanity table or dresser and selecting the create new outfit option.

2 Travel With Your Sims

You can also bring up the map and choose to travel with your sims, either just the one that needs resetting or the entire household. Since traveling essentially puts them all in a new location it works the same way as teleporting.

The advantage of traveling is that it will also reset the entire lot so if some of your item interactions are also being glitchy this solution is the best one to try first.

1 Taking Extreme Measures

If nothing else has worked the ultimate reset involves using the manage world menu to move your sim into a new household and back to their old one, or even to move the entire family to a new lot.

Before you employ anything this extreme we advise saving everything in case things go wrong. Also, remember that moving an entire household to a new location will either sell all your furniture or place it all in your household inventory. You cannot move to a new home then move back to the nicely furnished one you just vacated unless you can replace it from the gallery or your library.

How to Reset a Stuck Sim

Sometimes, your Sims may get stuck in one place and won’t move. This glitch can be really annoying and pinpointing the exact root-cause of the problem is not that obvious. As if that was not enough, not being able to move and do what you asked them makes Sims unhappy.

But this is guide, we’ll take a look at what you can do if your Sim won’t move and won’t do any commands.

How do I get my Sim unstuck? If your Sim got stuck in one place and won’t move, remove any objects blocking their path, restart the game or reset the problematic Sim.

You’ll find the detailed instructions below.

My Sim Won’t Do Anything

Fix 1 – Remove Any Objects From Your Sim’s Path

Oftentimes, your Sims won’t move because there’s an object blocking their path. Identify it and remove it as soon as possible.

Speaking of objects blocking your Sims, this is one of the most frequent reasons why your Sims won’t go to bed and sleep.

Fix 2 – Restart Your Game

A simple game restart works wonders. Launch the game again and check if this solved the problem. If not, you’ll need to reset the problematic Sim.

Fix 3 – Reset Your Sims

If your Sims become stuck and unresponsive, try resetting them. There are two methods you can use to reset your Sims.

Reset your Sims using the ResetSim command

  1. Press and hold the CTRL + Shift + C keys to open the cheat window.
  2. Type resetSim Firstname Lastname
  3. Hit Enter

Example: If you want to reset John Doe, type resetSim John Doe. If you need to reset all of the Sims, type resetSim *.

Reset your Sims using the Testingcheats true method:

  1. Press and hold the CTRL + Shift + C keys to open the cheat window.
  2. Type testingcheatstrue
  3. Hit Enter
  4. Press Shift and select the Sim you want to reset
  5. Select Reset Object (Debug)

Keep in mind that resetting your Sims will bring them back into a playable state. Your Sims won’t return to their home lots after confirming the command. Also, all your Sims’ wishes and moodlets will be cancelled after the reset.

Hope something helps.

How to Reset a sim in Sims 3

If you’re playing The Sims 3, you might be facing the same problem as with The Sims 4. Read on to find out how you can solve this problem.

Reset a Particular Sim:-

This method is exactly the same as the Cheat Method 2 you have to use. Follow the instructions given above in Cheat Method 2 to return a single game character to a playable state in the game.

Reset an Entire lot

  • Select the ‘Edit Town’ mode.
  • Select the lot which you wish to reset.
  • Go to Buy Mode or Build Mode. This will transfer all the Sims from the selected lot to their home.
  • Alternatively, click on the lot after getting the MasterController Mod created by Twallan.
  • Select the option ‘NRaas_ Master Controller_ Reset Lot’.

Sims 3 Reset Sim: With or without mods

In The Sims 3, you can reset game characters with the help of mods. But you can also do so without their help. Follow these steps to reset the whole neighbourhood in this game.

With a mod:-

  • Download and install the MasterController Mod by Twallan.
  • Click on a Computer or the City Hall.
  • Select the ‘NRaas_ MasterController_Town_Reset Everything’ option.

This mod can be used to reset not only every game character in town, but also all objects.

Without any mods:-

This method is also the same as the exact alternative method for Cheat Method 2 above for sims 4 reset sim.

  • Hold Ctrl+ Shift+ C.
  • When the Cheats window appears, type in ‘resetSim *’.

You can’t use this method to reset objects when you’re playing The Sims 3. It will shift all the Sims to a random area on their home lot. Keep in mind that using this method will cancel all the moodlets and wishes of your game characters.

Final words

From the methods listed above, you can see that making sims 4 reset sim isn’t much of a difficult task. But you know that doing so cancels its moodlets and wishes. So, every time you do this, you need to check again whether they have to complete particular actions or not to get back their previous moodlet. This whole setup to reset sim sims 4 makes you feel like you’re totally in control of the game!

There are other issues that you might face while playing, some of them are mentioned in thebroken mods.

How To Fix A Stuck Sim - The Sims 4 Tips

Apparently, I kept my gaze too much on the package. The guy noticed that I was looking in the same direction as he, looked down and blushed deeply. Then 10 long minutes of silence, until I decided: "You live far away," I asked. "Dimitrovgrad," he replied.

Now discussing:

Although her mom is quite beautiful, but this, as I called for myself, is the cold beauty of a bitch. Okay, Im already tuned in - tomorrow well talk to maman. It is high time.
